An Oakland native, Brian Copenhagen has been courting
sound and music since age eight when he picked up the
cello. For many years, Brian continued his close relationship
with music, developing skills on trombone, acoustic
and electric bass, drums, and guitar. This led naturally
to an interest in sound, and he began recording his
own bands in 1990.
He turned toward the world of film in 1995, when he
undertook recording production sound for several 16mm
films with graduate students at Loyola Marymount University.
In the following years, Brian worked as a production
sound mixer for films shot on 35mm, 16mm, DV, and High
Definition. His affinity for music has continued through
sound design and composing for short films.
Brian recently wrapped production on Ball Lightning,
a High-Definition short film written by Barry Gifford,
a co-writer of Wild at Heart and Lost Highway.
He is currently in post-production for Leisure,
an independent DV feature that took him on location
to Italy. He continues to teach a course in Location/Production
Sound at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco,
and work as a freelance sound mixer for film and broadcast
television.
